Overview

The Volume at Price (VAP) indicator allows you to see a simple graphic of the closing prices that have occurred the most within defined price zones. The position of the VAP, and the number and size of price buckets can be adjusted, along with lookback period (eg 52 weeks, bars on screen) over which the data is calculated.

This example shows most closes for the ASX200 index XJO occurred in the 6600 - 6700 price zone over the past 52 weeks, which uses the price scale to define the price zones:

To add the tool to your chart, select the tool from the Price tool group, and left-click on the chart or indicator on which you wish to add the tool. Optuma will then draw the tool using the default settings.

Add to Toolbar: Adds the selected tool to your custom toolbar.

Apply Settings to All: When multiple Volume at Price tools have been applied to a chart, page or workbook, this action can be used to apply the settings of the one selected to other instances of the tool. This is a great time saver if an adjustment is made to the tool - such as line colour - as this allows all the other Volume at Price tools in the chart, page or entire workbook to be updated instantly.

Copy Tool: Allows you to copy the selected tool, which can then be pasted onto a different chart window.

Move to Back: If the tool is displaying in front of other tools or indicators clicking this action will move the tool view to the background.

Move to Front: If the tool is displaying behind other tools or indicators on the chart, clicking this action will bring the tool to the forefront.

Restore Default Settings: Click this action if you have adjusted the default settings of the tool, and wish to return to the standard properties originally installed with Optuma.

Save Settings as Default: If you have adjusted any of the tool’s properties (colour, for example) you can save the adjustments as your new default setting. Each time you apply a new Volume at Price to a chart, the tool will display using the new settings.

Delete: Deletes the tool from the chart.

Tool Name: Allows you to adjust the name of the tool, as it’s displayed in the Structure Panel.

Display Position: Can elect to display the indicator either to the left or right of the chart.

Display Type: Select from either Bars or Points for the tool calculation.

Use Price Scale: When selected the price zones will be aligned with the Price Scale values.

Buckets: When Use Price Scale is not selected, this option gives you the ability to set the number of price zone buckets, allowing for more granularity.

Calculate From: By default, the Volume at Price will be calculated from the bars that are displayed on screen. This can also be switched to either Bars, Days, Weeks, Months or Years.

Look Back Period: When Calculate From is set to other than Screen, the lookback period to be included in the VAP calculation can be manually set eg 52 weeks.

VAP Transparency: Use this slider bar to adjust the transparency of the Volume bars. Moving the slider to the left will increase the transparency of the tool.

Colour: Allows you to set the colour of the Volume at Price shading. Clicking on the drop down arrow will display a colour swatch. Locate the desired colour and left-click it once to select it.

BG Colour: Allows you to set the background colour of the Volume at Price. Clicking on the drop down arrow will display a colour swatch. Locate the desired colour and left-click it once to select it.
BG Transparency: Use this slider bar to adjust the transparency of the background colour. Moving the slider to the left will increase the transparency of the tool.

Visible: Un-tick this checkbox to hide the tool from the chart.
