Overview

Touchscreen technology has become an ubiquitous part of our lives. From mobile phones and tablet PC’s to large screen surface panels, people are finding touchscreens a more natural way to interface with their programs.

Optuma has been designed to take advantage of all that the new technology has to offer.

Below is a video demonstrating Multi-Touch functions in Optuma:

Multi-Touch Controls

The controls on the Multi-Touch screen change dynamically, depending on the task you’re performing…

Tap

Multi Touch 1
Tapping an item on a touchscreen is the equivalent of a left mouse click. You can select or enable a function by tapping on it (a button in the Custom Toolbar, for example).

Tap & Hold

Multi Touch 2
Tapping on an item, and holding it can be used to select something and move it from one position to another. For example, moving a tool from one position on a chart to another, or, moving a button on the Custom toolbar from one area to another.

You can also use Tap and Hold on the chart to enable the zoom window. The zoom window is useful when wanting to see more detail on a particular section (all time high, for example) without wanting to adjust the zoom level of the chart.

Dragging

Multi Touch 3
The Dragging gesture will vary based on the number of fingers used in the action:

  • Dragging a single finger along the screen, is most commonly used to move backwards and forwards through the charts price action. However, you can also use it to move the chart up or down (unlocking the auto-scale). You can also drag an entry from a Watchlist, to the bottom or side of the window, and have a chart open for the selected code (demonstrated in the above video).
  • Dragging with two fingers is covered in the Pinching and Expanding sections below.
  • Dragging with three fingers moves the actual chart window, allowing you to change its position on the screen, or to move it to a different tab.
  • Dragging with four fingers to the left will change the view to the previous page tab.
  • Dragging with four fingers to the right will change the view to the next page tab.

Pinch

Multi Touch 4
To zoom out on a charts price action you use the pinch gesture. This is done by placing 2 fingers on the chart that are apart, then moving them together. As your fingers move closer together the chart display will zoom out at the position where your fingers are placed.

Expand

Multi Touch 5
To zoom in on a charts price action you use the expand gesture. This is done by placing 2 fingers on the chart that are together, then moving them apart. As your fingers move away from each other the chart display will zoom into the position where your fingers are placed.
