Chart Annotations

Overview

Rather than having a separate chart for noting down important information, Annotations allow you to place a marker on the chart, which when hovered over, will expand to display more detailed content. When printed, the contents of the annotation appears below chart.

Charts that include Annotations can be printed to PDF or Word in a clean and simple layout with the Annotation markers displayed on the chart and the text displayed below.

Applying a Chart Annotation

To apply an Annotation to your chart, go to the Actions bar on the left-hand side of the program window, and locate this icon:

Left-click the Annotation icon to select, and then left-click on the chart in the required location on the chart.

A blank annotation will be added to the chart.

Adding Information to an Annotation

Once the Annotation has been applied to the chart, you can add notes by hovering your mouse cursor over the annotation icon. After a second, a window will display which you can add text into.

This same process can be used to edit / add additional information to the annotation.

Add to Toolbar:** Click this action to add the Annotation to your custom toolbar.

Apply Settings to All: When multiple Annotations have been applied to a chart, page or workbook, this action can be used to apply the settings of the one selected to other instances of the tool. This is a great time saver if an adjustment is made to the tool, this allows all the other Annotations in the chart, page or entire workbook to be updated instantly.

Copy Tool: Allows you to copy the selected Annotation, which can then be pasted onto a different chart window.

Move to Back: If the lines of the Annotation is displaying in front of other tools or indicators clicking this action will move the Annotation view to the background.

Move to Front: If the lines of the Annotation is displaying behind other tools or indicators on the chart, clicking this action will bring the Annotation to the forefront.

Restore Default Settings: Click this action if you have adjusted the default settings of the Annotation, and wish to return to the standard properties originally installed with Optuma.
Save Settings as Default: If you have adjusted any of the Annotation Properties you can save the adjustments as your new default setting. Each time you apply a new Annotation to a chart, the tool will display using the new settings.

Delete: Removes the Annotation from the chart.

Tool Name: Each time you apply a Chart Annotation a label is assigned automatically. You can change this label using the Tool Name property.

Text Size: Use the slider bar to adjust the size of the text displayed in the expanded section of the Chart Annotation. Moving the slider bar to the right will increase the size of the text.

Name Size: Adjusts the size of the Annotation label. Moving the slider bar to the right will increase the label size.

Name Colour: Selecting this option will display a colour palette where you can alter the colour of the Annotation label.

Show Icon: Deselecting this option will hide the Annotation icon and display only the label.

Floating Note: Tick this box to set the annotation as a floating object on the chart. This means the text will remain in the same position on your screen, even when moving forwards or backwards along the chart.

Tool Transparency: Use the slider bar or enter a value to adjust the transparency of the Chart Annotation. Moving the slider to the left will decrease the transparency of the tool.

Printing Charts

Charts which have Annotations applied will print differently to charts without Annotations.

If you have applied Annotations to your chart, each will display on the chart in their selected location.
