Overview

The Enhanced Mitigation Experience Toolkit (EMET) is a utility that helps prevent vulnerabilities in software from being successfully exploited. EMET achieves this goal by using security mitigation technologies.

However, it is possible that some of these Mitigation technologies will not be compatible with your existing software.

In relation to Optuma, this does not support Data Execution Prevention (DEP), if this Mitigation is active you will receive a Windows Access Violation error when you start Optuma.

In order to continue using Optuma, you will need to add an application rule in the EMET settings for Optuma, that will explicitly exclude the DEP option whilst still retaining the other mitigation technologies.

When you installed EMET, this would have included a PDF user guide that will show you how to make these setting adjustments. There are also various tutorials on the web that may be of assistance, an example of one has been provided here.
